Air volume determination by person occupancy
In rooms of non-residential buildings where a large number of people are present and the air quality is to comply with the hygienic requirements according to DIN EN 13779, the outdoor air volume flow is determined by the number of people present in the room.
1 Classification of indoor air quality (RAL) according to DIN EN 19773:2007-11: 1 (high), 2 (medium), 3 (low), 4 (low).
Formula for determining the personal outdoor air volume flow:
VAUL | Output flow rate in m³/h |
VAUL,P | Vacuum flow per person in m³/(h*pers.) |
n | Number of people |
An example:
In a company-owned smoking room with max. 15 smoking persons, the air quality RAL 2 is to be managed with an air handling unit. For RAL 2, a fresh air volume of 90 m³/h is assumed per person (see table). That means with 15 smoking persons an air volume of 1,350 m³/h is needed.
